MSC Seaside made a big splash last week when she was officially christened at her naming ceremony in Miami on the 21st December. The lively occasion was to mark the first MSC Cruises‘ ship specially made for the North American market.
Actor and presenter Mario Lopez hosted the ceremony, greeting special guests on MSC Cruises ‘Blue Carpet’. The star-studded ceremony was attended by the world-famous tenor Andrea Bocelli and international superstar Ricky Martin. Other guests included MSC Seaside’s Godmother – the legendary Sophia Loren, who has help christen every MSC Cruises ship since 2003.
A sneak peak
MSC Seaside’s unique features are due to set her apart from all the other ships in the fleet – she was designed with the destination in mind, being the ideal retreat for sun lovers and ready to make guests feel closer to the sea than ever.
As ‘the ship that follows the sun’ MSC Seaside was custom-built for warmer climes. Her distinctive design was inspired by a Miami beach condo – taking full advantage of the beautiful Floridian weather and embracing outside space. A waterfront boardwalk, the largest ever seen on a ship, wraps around MSC Seaside, providing ample sunbathing space! Two glass-floored catwalks and a ‘Bridge of Sighs’ stretch up 131ft, providing astonishing views of the open ocean.
MSC Seaside also boasts a new record breaking feature – the longest zip-line at sea! Two side-by-side zip-lines extend high above the ships lido deck, providing 360° views of the ship and surroundings. It looks spectacular!
MSC Cruises are well-known for their international appeal, so naturally they’ve opted for non-verbal entertainment to overcome language barriers – like acrobatics, dance and magic. However with MSC Seaside being purpose built for the Northern American market, the introduction of Disney characters and new musical performances will also be seen onboard.
Delicious new dining options
MSC Cruises have worked hard to revamp their onboard dining experience – they’ve even teamed up with celebrity chef Roy Yamaguchi to create Asian Market Kitchen, which will serve Pan-Asian cuisine.
They’ve also partnered with well-known international chain Eataly, to provide gourmet Italian cuisine onboard their newest ships, MSC Preziosa, MSC Divina, MSC Meraviglia and now MSC Seaside. They’re also introducing new specialty restaurants including Ocean Cay – an upmarket seafood restaurant, La Boheme – a new French bistro, and Butcher’s Cut – an all-American steakhouse. Tasty!
