MSC Cruises recently marked the special moment when MSC Meraviglia made her official maiden call at her homeport, Hamburg, by delighting cruise fans with the news that their upcoming flagship MSC Grandiosa will be christened there, too!
When will the christening be?
Get the date in your diaries – the ceremony will take place on Saturday 2nd November 2019!
What does MSC Grandiosa hold in store?
She’s set to be the largest ship in the fleet so far, and has plenty of surprises in store for guests – not least that she’ll be home to two brand new shows from their exclusive partnership with Cirque du Soleil! Twice every night, six nights a week, passengers can see unique shows from the world leader in live artistic entertainment. Cirque du Soleil at Sea is definitely not to be missed!
MSC Grandiosa will also boast one of the most intricate and exciting water parks at sea, with three twisting waterslides. Who’s ready to make a splash?!
Plus, get competitive playing your favourite game in the Sportsplex or rev your engine as you go head-to-head against a friend in a Formula 1 virtual-reality race car! Whether you’re young or young at heart, you’re sure to get the adrenaline going as you whizz down the track in this virtual race.
She’ll also offer two teenagers’ clubs – one for 12-14 year olds and another for 15-17 year olds. The teens-only area will serve as a cinema, games room and disco! There’s no shortage of fabulous entertainment onboard this ship, that’s for sure.
‘A journey of strong growth’
MSC Cruises executive chairman Pierfrancesco Vago told Travel Weekly – “Since our last christening in Germany of MSC Magnifica in 2010, as a company we have embarked on a journey of strong growth and the German cruise guest has embraced our brand and our offering in a strong way so it is only natural that we would look to christen in Germany our next flagship and the first of the Meraviglia-plus ships to come into service, MSC Grandiosa.
“We hold a special relationship with Germany overall and we are looking forward to celebrating with our German partners next November as well as welcoming our international guests to this historic port, rich in maritime tradition and heritage.”
What else is happening?
MSC Bellissima will also come into service in 2019, and is due to be christened next March in Southampton.
