The Cruise deals team were lucky enough to be invited down to Southampton by Royal Caribbean last month to test out their latest ship Anthem of the Seas. We joined a special 2 night pre-inaugural cruise sailing round the British Channel, along with travel partners, VIP guests and members of press.
This cruise gave us a chance to really get the feel of Anthem of the Seas. You need to see it to believe it with Anthem of the Seas, it really does have the WOW factor. So we have compiled a guide to the must-see things to do and see on-board Anthem of the Seas.
It sits at the heart of the ship on deck 4 / 5 and is the home to Boleros, La Patisserie, Michael’s Genuine Pub, Sorrentos, Café Promenade, and a selection of high-end and designer shops. This area of the ship has a nice vibe, it’s great for finding a comfy seat and participating in a spot of people watching either with a robot-crafted cocktail from Bionic Bar or a Starbucks coffee and macaroons from La Patisserie. With plenty of dining and drinking options to-hand you could easily spend the whole day there without complaint.
Pulse Spiral chandelier is a cool interactive artwork on deck 5 – It works by placing your hands on the metal plates in-front for 10 seconds, then the 200 light bulbs flash in time with your heartbeat. After its finished flashing, the recording of your heartbeat is then transferred to the lowest light bulb and will move up the chandelier each time a new heartbeat is added. We’d recommend taking your little ones along to check it out.
The chilled-out, child-free utopia is located at the bow end of the ship up on deck 14. It’s like a tropical rainforest with lush foliage, snug seating and a collection of interflowing pools, all that’s missing is the birds of paradise. If you’re feeling peckish have a bite to eat in Devinly Decadence, indulging in comfort food favourites with none of the guilt, as all dishes are less than 500 calories. Create your own made-to-order smoothie or cheeky fruit cocktail at Sunshine Bar and take a dip in one Whirlpools.
North Star located on deck 15, has to be at the top of your list of things to do. You can enjoy the best views on-board in North Star which raises 300ft above sea level giving you a birds-eye view of the ship and even manoeuvres over the side of the ship. Aim to get a slot for sunrise or sunset as the views will be out-of-this-world.

You can find it on deck 5 at the stern of the ship. It provides panoramic views from the 270° stretch of glass wrapping around stern of the ship. Two70 has two distinct personalities – During the day Two70 acts as laid-back lounge great from enjoying a leisurely lunch while taking in the view. At night it transforms into an exciting entertainment space with Vistarama, Roboscreens, and live performances.
Amazing tech and talent at Spectra’s Cabaret show!! Two70 is a tour de force entertainment venue! #anthemoftheseas A video posted by @little_lj on
You really do go down the rabbit hole when dining in Wonderland, with its menu themed around the elements and use of theatrics and food – it is a one-of-a-kind, quirky dining experience you must try for yourself. The avant-garde décor provides the perfect setting for molecular gastronomy served inside, – a little tip, the dishes are not always what they appear to be so be prepared to be pleasantly surprised.
Find it on deck 15 – SeaPlex is a multi-functional indoor activity space which features a full-size basketball court, roll-skating rink, circus school, floating DJ booth and the first-ever bumper cars at sea. It is surrounded by a mezzanine level of Activity Rooms filled with Xbox Live consoles and games tables to keep the teens and tweens entertained.
Gigi the Giraffe
Why wouldn’t there be a 10 metre tall giraffe complete with rubber ring on deck 15? Gigi is definitely worth visiting just to put a smile on your face – designed by artist Jean Francois, Gigi is a great spot for a selfie. While you’re at it pop round the corner to test your skills on the FlowRider and RipeCord or just sit back and share a chuckle with some of the less-skilled contenders’ attempts.
Sky bar & Outdoor Pool
Up on deck 14 Sky bar overlooks the main Outdoor Pool and provides the faultless holiday atmosphere with band stand, outdoor movie screen, whirlpools and Jonny Rockets providing the grub. Order a cocktail, grab a lounger, sit back and relax and let the holiday begin!
