New name, same friendly welcome
As you may have heard, Thomson and Falcon will soon be changing to TUI across the UK and Ireland – and as part of the re-brand, they’ll also be setting sail with a new cruise name – Marella Cruises!
Why the change?
As we wave goodbye to Thomson and welcome in TUI, you may have expected the fleet to take on the name ‘TUI Cruises’ – however TUI Cruises is already a recognised brand within the European market, which comprises the impressive Mein Schiff ships.
With sleek, modern additions to the fleet and exotic new routes in the pipeline – TUI felt it the perfect time to look ahead with a new name for their fleet, one which reflects their spirit of exploration and discovery. ‘Marella’ is of Celtic origin and means ‘shining sea’, so a seemingly fitting name for a brand that sets sail to stunning destinations, with a service that always leaves you with memories that shine.
As Marella Cruises, TUI will still offer the same great destinations, same fabulous itineraries and same superb service that it always has.
What will happen to my booking?
If you’ve already booked up with Thomson Cruises – don’t worry, the new name won’t affect your booking in any way. Your itinerary will still remain the same and you can still look forward to the same great service you’ve come to expect.
What about the ship names?
To mark the arrival of Marella Cruises, the ship names of your firm favourites will be also changing just slightly…
- TUI Discovery will become Marella Discovery
- TUI Discovery 2 will become Marella Discovery 2
- TUI Explorer will become Marella Explorer
- Thomson Celebration will become Marella Celebration
- Thomson Dream will become Marella Dream.
Thomson Spirit, meanwhile, will be known just as Spirit – as she’s only here for one more season!
TUI are also excited to reveal that Marella Cruises will operate in Asia from winter 2018, with the first sailing from Langkawi, Malaysia on 20th December 2018.
There’ll be 22 new itineraries and 20 new ports of call, including Singapore, Cambodia, Goa, Bangkok and Vietnam. For the first time, Marella Explorer and Marella Celebration will be based in Barbados for winter 2018. The Asia itineraries will be on sale from 26th October – exciting times!
“An incredibly exciting time for our business”
Ricard Sofer, Managing Director for Cruise said “This is an incredibly exciting time for our business. We’re really proud to offer an experience that guests want to come back to time and again, because of our itineraries, service and ships.
Moving forward as Marella Cruises, we’ve got new modern additions to our fleet, along with new destinations offering customers more choice and experiences than ever before, which really reflects our spirit of exploration and discovery within our new brand.”
“I’m absolutely delighted that we’re offering a season of Asian itineraries – it is an incredibly diverse part of the world and I have no doubt that our customers are going to love their adventures across countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, India and Oman to name a few. These captivating destinations – along with our new ships, famously friendly staff and the value for money we offer, will mean more customers choose to cruise with us.”
