Why Cruising is Family-Friendly

Why Cruising is Family-Friendly

There’s nothing better than sharing bucket-list adventures with your family – and cruising is the perfect way to enjoy an easy-going getaway that all the family will love. With activities for all ages and interests, the options are never-ending. With everything all under one roof – your accommodation, activities, entertainment, food and childcare taken care of – you can sit back, relax and make the most of your fabulous cruising experience.

Family Fun

Bumper cars in Royal Caribbean's Quantum Class

Much like your land based holidays, cruising offers activities day and night that cater to the whole family. Spend your sea days making a splash in the pool, battle it out with a game of mini-golf or go head-to-head in the sports court. Some cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line have exciting features such as bumper cars, water parks, ice-skating rinks and outdoor cinema screens. The possibilities onboard are never ending – and with evening entertainment ranging from soaring acrobats to magic shows and DreamWorks® extravaganzas – every day will be a whole new adventure.

Kids

No two days are the same onboard – and with free kids clubs onboard for ages up to 17 years, those little ones too cool to hang around with mum and dad have their very own exciting activities to indulge in. There’ll be Xbox areas, mini-discos, arts and crafts, movie afternoons and so much more. There’s so much fun to be had – they’ll never want to leave!

If you have babies or infants with you, don’t worry about a thing. Most cruise lines have child carers with relevant qualifications and a minimum of three years experience, meaning they’re in super safe hands. P&O Cruises even have a night nursery so that you can indulge in some much need alone time – you don’t have to pick your child up until 2am! They have baby food covered as well, all for free – so all you need to do is drop the kids off and head out for a good time.

‘Sea’ a lot

Atlantis Waterpark

A real advantage of crusing is being able to visit all kinds of destinations without the hassle of packing and unpacking. The kids clubs are available whist you’re at port, so if you want some alone time or the kids decide to hang out with their new found friends – they can at any point of the holiday. Of course, when you’re at port you and the family can take advantage of the many shore excursions on offer – head on jeep safaris, spend a day at the beach or check out the local water parks and zoos!

Take your taste buds on a journey

One thing we all love about holidays is the chance to divulge into delicious food. Well guess what? When you’re hitting the high seas, one of the perks is without a doubt the exceptional cuisine. Have everything from succulent steaks to towering burgers, creamy milkshakes to fruity smoothies – there are more than 20 restaurants onboard some ships, meaning even the fussiest of eaters will be able to tuck in. Laid back buffet-style eateries are perfect if you’re not quite sure what you fancy. Grab a hot dog at the pool bar, visit the ice cream café for the perfect scoop or dig into a five-course frenzy. Whatever your taste buds fancy, you’ll find it onboard – and with 24 hour room service, you’re even covered for those midnight munchies.

Family-friendly cabins

Big family? Cruise ships cater to those with larger families with rooms that’ll fit up to 12 people, or you can usually get adjoining cabins upon request. They’re spacious, modern and if you bag yourself a balcony cabin, the views are spectacular. The kids will often have bunk beds and the cruise lines go above and beyond to ensure you have the most comfortable stay. You can even request a butler at an additional charge to take care of your every cruise need – from running you a hot bath after a long day at port to taking care of your ironing!

Adult-only areas

You may be with your family, it’s certainly nice to indulge in that ‘you’ time now and again. That’s why most cruise ships offer adult-only areas where you can relax and rejuvenate – they usually feature a private pool, bubbling hot tubs and a bar. So when the kids decide to play on their video games, you can enjoy a bit of pampering to get you ready for the day or night ahead.

You can even hit up the casino, check out a comedy show or catch your favourite West-End style performance – one thing’s for sure, there’s always plenty for the adults to enjoy. And with a wide variety of bars onboard, you can enjoy your favourite tipple, too!
